a touch of sugar
brown and loving
steals away my quaking nerves
and in their place
a frosted cake
of pleasing pink
to stir desire

the discomfort of familiarity with consistency
gnaws at necks
slides down the spine
and taunts with time
once
hours would fly then fall
wine white would bloom burgundy blood
pale purple cotton clouds would wave through black blue skies
memories would meld with dreams
and dance in the lush possibility of each impossibility
the dulled murky mind longs to return to such a time
when i was mine

it’s unclear
as to why
every mirror
insists
on throwing your face
in front of me

with a dark fiery flourish
everything collapses
slow and unsteady
the biting beat
emanating from sour souls slipping to sleep
once bold
brash
brutal
unapologetically indulged
slurped up the spit of the sea
blew bubbles at the sky and laughed as it cried
earned exquisiteness
all ends should be so utter
so complete

we are now and ever will be apart
ceaseless
i must endure
the maddening rhythm
the poorly timed beats
of this atrophied heart

indulge in the shallow pleasure of swimming on your surface
the gorgeous pressure of diving deep
the beautiful inability to breathe
evades me
your simple swells
your storms so brief
if only some salacious satisfaction were to lurk beneath
