A Stage Well Set

by meaghanmerrifield

in well-worn rooms

dimly lit dreams of love heavily loom

the way the mouth moves when it speaks

the sort of voice you taste before you

hear

inhale

inhale

Life is a fragmented experience

A flurry unfocused

Art creates magnetic moments, drawing us in

pulling us apart

Simultaneously shielding and revealing

Pushing us to relinquish and reclaim

Opposing ideas meet

Brawl

then into one another they bleed

creating a truth beautifully cohesive

Violet and her Dog

“Violet and her Dog” by Angie Hoover-Hillhouse

When I worked as an Executive Assistant a few years back, I had days where I worked until my brain turned into farts followed by days where I could draw in my office for hours without getting caught. One afternoon I drew about 40 different alien/monster/creature-things and left them on desktops and toilets. This one was pulled from that bunch.

You and I can fly like crows

through salted air

and sleeping smoke

nights will welcome

all our pecking

 come away

please come away

Kamala at Dusk

A lady brown with loving heat

Sleeping softly in the grass

Her beauty travels in the wind

weaving sweetness into dusk

lazy flowers bow and sway

Then press their bodies to the Earth

stems and petals shine in song

then sleep in comfort til the dawn
